ABE site Italy

The ABE program in Italy is organized with the Headquarters (HQ) in Naples, and five Distribution Centers (DC) in Milan, Camerino, Spoleto, Bari, and Palermo, with a mini-DC in Cagliari.

ABE site Italy has been active since 2017. It is coordinated by ANISN (the Italian National Association for Natural Sciences Teachers) together with the University of Naples "Federico II", the Bioscience and Bioresources Institute of the National Research Council, the Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM), the University of Camerino, the Italian Society for Agricultural Genetics, and the Società dei Naturalisti (Society of Naturalists).

ABE site Italy takes advantage of the international cooperation of a consolidated network of 25 ABE sites, active in three continents: Australia, Canada, Japan, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Turkey and United States.

ABE site Italy is twinned with the ABE site Japan at the University of Tokyo and the ABE site France at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

ABE offers methodological training grounded on Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) and molecular biology training for secondary school teachers and students. It provides without charge instruments and reagents to perform experimental activities in school labs, thus offering a unique opportunity to integrate them in the school curriculum.

The ABE training program includes free training courses for teachers, both in a distance learning setting and in person (in Naples, Camerino, Bari, Palermo, and Milan), which involve schools in twelve Italian regions (Campania, Lazio, Apulia, Basilicata, Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo, Molise, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Sicily, and Sardinia).
