This event will take place on Saturday, 16 September 2023 from 9:00-16:00 at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre and will be split into 2 sessions.
An introduction to the ABE curriculum will take place from 9:00-11:00, followed by a 1-hour lunch break. Thereafter, the subject advisors will give a presentation on aligning the ABE and CAPS curricula and PDI will run from 12:00-16:00.
The first session consists of an introductory workshop which aims to give educators an overview of the Amgen Biotechnology Experience curriculum, as well as address the goals and objectives of this initiative. This workshop marks the beginning of bringing cutting-edge science into the classroom within the context of ABE as an international programme.
After the lunch break, the second session will consist of 2 parts. The subject advisors will give a presentation outlining the sections from the ABE curriculum which are relevant to the CAPS Life Sciences curriculum and can be covered in class.
The PDI will introduce teachers to biotechnology and techniques commonly used in biotechnology labs. The critical lab techniques that will be covered are micropipetting and gel electrophoresis. Relevant simulations will be done through LabXchange to familiarise teachers with using the equipment and standard protocols.
Refreshments will be served and lunch will be provided between the two sessions. A stipend will be provided.
Please register by 1 September
